[14:57:01] <Fnord666> Quick question. How many here know who Kurt Gödel was? I'm trying to gauge interest in one of the submissions.
[14:57:12] <Fnord666> Specifically https://soylentnews.org
[14:59:33] <Ingar> the incomplete guy ?
[15:00:08] <Ingar> mandatory curriculum
[16:04:34] <AlwaysNever> no idea who "Kurt Gödel" of how his name is written in non-UTF8 displays...
[16:12:25] <fab23> hm it is not an ö, which would also be available as 8bit ASCII
[16:13:08] <fab23> hm, somehow it may still be an ö (oe), my font displays it ugly
[16:15:33] <AlwaysNever> I'm on an ISO-8859-1 display, and my IRC client is not UTF-8 aware...
[16:16:34] <AlwaysNever> somehow the luminaries behind Unicode decided to grandfather in US-ASCII in their new Unicode, but to NOT grandfather in ISO-8859-1, in order to maximize pain.
[16:17:57] <fab23> does this ö work?
[16:18:28] <AlwaysNever> I see: ¨ + A + Paragraph symbol
[16:18:31] <fab23> did copy & paste from a website this is written as ö
[16:21:17] <AlwaysNever> it's not a problem on your side, it's my non-UTF8-aware system where the problem is
[16:22:26] <fab23> I tried to past that 8-bit (not UTF-8) oe, but it seems that it got coverted to UTF-8 :(
[16:22:40] <fab23> s/past/paste/
[16:42:12] <janrinok> Fnord666, I do, but only because I looked it up. The true metric (IMO) is how many people read the story rather than look for comments. Previous stories in a similar vein have been of interest to a portion of our community but haven't necessarily generated a discussion. Some do, some don't.
[16:42:46] <kolie2> I made a sub!
[16:44:07] <janrinok> I noticed!
[16:44:47] <kolie2> hows site behavior been
[16:44:50] <janrinok> Did you get a response from fliptop regarding his server?
[16:45:05] <kolie2> its cooked there is nothign else.
[16:45:42] <janrinok> Oh dear, that is not good news.
[16:45:59] <kolie2> he mentioned some auction pcs coming up, they are 2008 vintage and like 2nd gen i7. I probably could ship someone a better laptop from my trash pile.
[16:46:20] <kolie2> Theres also very cheap VPS's out there.
[16:47:11] <janrinok> The VPS seems to be the better option at the moment. We have the funding, and as you say one shouldn't be an major drain on our funds.
[16:48:24] <kolie2> Ok. Wasn't sure what we have been receiving from subs/donations or the like.
[16:48:35] <janrinok> The issue to to ensure that someone other than yourself also has full access so that we do not have a single point of failure if you are suddenly ill/explode/turn into a wisp of smoke etc
[16:49:20] <kolie2> fo sho
[16:49:40] <kolie2> i dont plan on exploding or wisping rn but full moon coming
[16:50:00] <kolie2> TSA let me through, good enough for gubmt work.
[16:50:28] <janrinok> I'll be back on here in a while - still have some other jobs that need my attention before I can get back to my computers....
[16:50:36] <kolie2> cool.
[16:50:47] <kolie2> I've been plugging away here and there at pyhash.
[16:51:07] <kolie2> I wrote a template tool kit ( python template ) AST parser in python ><
[16:51:41] <kolie2> not python templat,e perl template
[16:51:45] <kolie2> I got p on the brain.
[16:52:05] <kolie2> And I've been running requests through live site and python in a test harness, to ensure parity.
