[08:32:41] <janrinok> Here, shops do not accept a card payment for anything less than €5 as that is just over the minimum swipe payment + shop profit. Without that shop profit it would be selling at a loss. Here, at least, cards will never replace cash because many people just want to buy a loaf of bread, or a bottle of milk, etc
[08:33:50] <janrinok> Cheques have no such additional payment so will remain popular for large amounts.
[08:34:05] <chromas> small stores do that here, but bigger ones don't worry about it, so if you go into Big Hardware store for a single nut, you can pay the 35¢ or whatever with card and they'll eat the fee
