[11:07:42] <Ingar> There should be soylent-underwear
[11:08:04] <Ingar> with "aristarchus" printed in the asshole area
[11:14:36] <janrinok> lol
[15:18:04] <drussell> G'morning, folks
[15:18:09] <drussell> mrpg++
[15:18:09] <bender> mrpg: 20
[15:21:35] <drussell> janrinok: I hope you understand it was not my intention to sound like a personal attack against you when I was rolling my eyes at the quality of that nonsense unionraya site yesterday...
[15:23:09] <drussell> It is difficult to convey the sarcasm and roll-eyes of in-person speech when you write something in a text comment... I wasn't trying to be harsh againt you, it is the annoyance of the prevalance of the enshittification of the web into so many noise sources these days... :)
[16:06:49] <janrinok> No offence taken, thank you but not apology needed either. :)
[16:06:59] <notk0lie> o/
[16:07:08] <janrinok> o/
[16:07:22] <janrinok> did you get the email about Stripe not working?
[16:07:38] <notk0lie> yea.
[16:07:44] <janrinok> OK
[16:09:16] <notk0lie> are we able to replicate it?
[16:12:07] <janrinok> It is not the first report but some seem to be successful while others don't. In this instance he suggested that it might be linked to 2FA but couldn't give any hard evidence. I can't afford to keep trying!!!
[16:13:43] <janrinok> I made a couple of donations about a week ago but they seemed to go through OK. I wasn't asked for 2FA. Might it be linked to the amount being paid??
[17:14:18] <notk0lie> Without knowing the parameters that are being submitted resulting in a failure, I wouldn't be able to speculate on the detail that's causing the issue.
[17:14:35] <notk0lie> It doesn't seem to me our side would know or care about anything on 2FA
[17:14:47] <notk0lie> It goes to strip, they do 2FA, stripe tells us we got a payment, regardless of 2fa.
[17:15:08] <notk0lie> What might exist is a copy of the transacation record in the stripe account
[17:15:12] <notk0lie> which we can "retry" for processing.
[17:15:22] <notk0lie> Paypal saves old IPNs and lets you replay them.
[17:15:28] <notk0lie> I'm guessing stripe has a similar feature.
[17:50:35] <janrinok> I agree - we shouldn't be involved in 2fa at all.
[18:17:56] <drussell> Yeah, that does mostly sound like it would be a stripe-side issue, right? That would make sense.
[18:18:11] <notk0lie> If it was 2FA.
[18:18:15] <notk0lie> I think its something else.
[18:18:27] <notk0lie> And we aren't handling or the code is bugging out when we get the process.
[18:19:20] <drussell> Right, I was meaning if it was just transactions that were requiring a 2FA not going through, that would be stripe-side...
[18:19:37] <drussell> If there is something else going awry sometimes, then it could be all sorts of things.
[18:20:24] <drussell> oooh, my Snap-On VW-1 adapter is at the post office for me to pick up! Nice... I guess it is time to go to the PO and check my mailbox... haha
[18:21:30] <drussell> A neighbor has a 93 Volkswagen Eurovan / T4 Transporter that has transmission issues... I tried making an adapter to talk to the computer and it made some solenoids click and whatnot but it never actually initiated communications...
[18:21:43] <janrinok> Is that 'snap-on tools' or are they just a UK thing. And I have no idea what a VW (VolksWagen)-1 is :)
[18:22:11] <drussell> It's slow on that standard, it only speaks 50 baud during the handshake... so I broke down and bought the actual adapter.
[18:23:05] <drussell> I have a Snap-ON MODIS diagnostic tool loaded with the last software version they offered (15.4) that knows about pretty much all vehicles from the 80s to 2015/2016...
[18:23:48] <drussell> and I have all the Japanese and American adapters for old ODB-1 (pre-1996 when it became standardized) vehicle computers, but I don't have the VW-1 and MB-1 and MB-2 adapters...
[18:24:02] <janrinok> We seem to have a good number of community members who do their own work on cars. I confess that I have now progressed to the 'let the garage do it' time of life.
[18:24:37] <drussell> Now I will have the VW-1... It connects to the dual 2-pin connectors on the early VW diagnostic ports for the computers / trans controllers, ABS, etc...
[18:25:49] <drussell> I'll bet my home-made adapter attempt would probably work, it just likely needs a pull-up resistor on the K-line or something...
[18:26:18] <drussell> Figured it was better to just break down and order the silly proper cable since they're still readily available... haha
[18:26:19] <janrinok> I didn't mind working on my car during summer, but getting cold in my own workshop led to more frustration and less job satisfaction for the rest of the year.
[18:27:28] <drussell> The past few years I've been renting a shop here from a a family friend that had a stroke and can't really work on stuff anymore... It has a 10,000 lb hoist, a milling machine, a lathe, plasma cutter, TIG welder, MIG welder, stick arc welder, all sorts of goodies that I barely know how to use...
[18:27:31] <drussell> :)
[18:28:33] <notk0lie> sounds like my office.
[18:28:50] <notk0lie> sans plasma cutter.
[18:29:03] <drussell> Plus there is a wood-pellet burning stove for winter... (Actually, it has in-floor heat too, but he only has old-school resistive electric water heaters on it, so I haven't used that... We should upgrade to heat-pump "boiler")
[18:29:12] <drussell> Yeah, I've never even tried a plasma cutter...
[18:29:58] <drussell> Soon I will try it... My geinormous Dodge van is up on the hoist right now with half the engine disassembled, about to put in its 4th camshaft since I've owned it... heh... heh...
[18:30:00] <notk0lie> I've attempted to cnc plasma cutting, but yea never owned one.
[18:30:36] <drussell> It needs some body work, so I'm going to play with some nifty tools that far surpass my old 1990s MIG unit... haha
[18:31:13] <notk0lie> a great tool from the 90s is still a great tool :)
[18:32:34] <drussell> Indeed. I love my little MIG... heh... heh I even modified it so I could do Aluminum about 10 years ago...
[18:32:37] <drussell> I built the engine that is in the van back in about 1994, I think... and haven't had to do anything to it until the #7 exhaust lobe on the camshaft went round (or lifter failed, whatever happened to kill it)
[18:32:37] <notk0lie> I want to build a decent drone platform, that isn't DJI, but has DJI level software, and I think im SOL.
[18:32:58] <notk0lie> Any alu I go straight to TIG.
[18:33:14] <notk0lie> I fucking hate Al mig.
[18:33:19] <drussell> but it was due for new main and rod bearings too, so it's very discombobulated right now...
[18:33:33] <drussell> AL MIG seemed to work OK for me for the bit I've used...
[18:33:44] <notk0lie> I've done a lot of moderately ok Al mig.
[18:33:49] <notk0lie> Enough that I never want to again.
[18:34:14] <drussell> I've never even tried TIG before, but Gaetan has a nice MILLER TIG machine in there, but I think I will need to get another bottle of gas to try playing with it, I think that one's empty...
[18:34:41] <drussell> I only have part of my little 20 cu fe or whatever it is argon bottle I was using for my MIG
[18:34:46] <drussell> ft
[18:35:06] <drussell> At least I bought it outright so I haven't been paying rental on a cylinder for 10/15 years or whatever now... haha
[18:35:20] <notk0lie> yea im weird about gas bottles I dont like having them around, I make exceptions for my propane/oxy setup and my argon bottle ;)
[18:35:55] <drussell> Well there is one of the big giant bottles on the TIG stand, but IIRC when I looked at the gauge it is almost empty...
[18:36:30] <drussell> Not sure if Gaetan is probably renting them? Dunno... Will need to ask him and then get that swapped out for a full one before I can learn TIG.
[18:36:48] <drussell> Doesn't TIG use some CO2/Argon blend or something?
[18:36:58] <notk0lie> I use straight argon when im doing al
[18:37:34] <notk0lie> i think the issue with co2
[18:38:09] <drussell> Yeah, I got my little AR bottle for doing AL on my MIG when I set it up for that....
[18:38:09] <notk0lie> is its so hot, tig welding, tat it breaks downt he co2 and you get oxygen apart and the carbon in your welds contaiminating
[18:38:39] <notk0lie> the electronics are inoizied into plasma, destroying the bonds in the co2
[18:38:42] <drussell> I just went and looked... My little AR bottle is 60 cu ft..
[18:39:18] <drussell> Hmmm, so probably then I just need a new big bottle of AR if I can use the same thing for AL MIG and doing TIG learning
[18:39:18] <notk0lie> 15ft an hour flow
[18:39:39] <drussell> I guess I could use up the rest of my AR bottle, but I kinda like having some in the little bottle for my MIG
[18:40:23] <drussell> I'll probably have to take that one back to Alberta to refill since I own it and wanna go back to OxyPro where I got it to swap it out..
[18:40:39] <drussell> I don't think Air Liquide or Praxair will do anything at all with owned bottles anymore.
[18:40:47] <drussell> (customer-owned, I mean)
[18:42:52] <notk0lie> its a fucking racket
[18:43:03] <notk0lie> Although I've seen these fucking crusty ass bottles people keep.
[18:43:15] <drussell> That's why I went with the customer-owned bottle from the small supplier...
[18:43:33] <drussell> Don't they have a max-age-before recertification date or something?
[18:43:53] <notk0lie> i dont fuck around with stupid shit like that, I have 10 yr bottles.
[18:44:37] <notk0lie> last thing I need is a rogue oxygen cylinder ramming through my wall
[18:45:36] <drussell> No missile projectiles allowed in Kolie's shop?!
[18:45:53] <drussell> Where's your sense of adventure?! LOL
[18:46:01] <drussell> KABOOM!
[18:46:04] <notk0lie> My shop is my house garage.
[18:46:12] <notk0lie> I toned it down.
[18:46:27] <notk0lie> I love a good missiling, when it's not house adjacent
[18:47:17] <drussell> Speaking of which, I probably should stick a camera into the air tank on the old SpeedAire compressor here at my place and make sure it's not all rusted to shit at the bottom... heh
[18:48:34] <drussell> I had a nice DeVilbiss 30gal 4hp in Alberta but it got stolen...
[18:49:32] <drussell> Got it from my parents for Christmas as a "Santa present" in 1992
[18:51:54] <notk0lie> fucking thieves.
[18:51:56] <drussell> was stolen about 4 years ago from my aunt's (formerly grandma's, where my mom grew up) garage when I had it over there to work on her car.. sniff... sniffle... That was a great compressor. JUST small enough to be "portable" and could be wired for 120, but I usually ran it on 240 so it could run continuously
[18:52:33] <notk0lie> yea I take care of my stuff, I like having the things im comfortable with around a long time
[18:52:36] <notk0lie> you get used to them
[18:53:11] <drussell> I try to do the "buy once, cry once" and buy decent tools... Lots of my tools I have had since I was a teenager
[18:53:19] <drussell> It pays in the long run.
[18:53:43] <notk0lie> yea, unless its clearly a one off thing, and I can use the cheap one to get me through, I def get the good shit.
[18:54:12] <drussell> When that compressor was stolen, I also lost my 1/4" and 3/8" Craftsman socket wrenches I'd had since I was 15 or 16, and my nice impact socket set and a bunch of other goodies... Grrrr...
[18:54:51] <drussell> I still have the 1/2" one from the set, though... It was locked inside the car when they broke intothe garage
[18:58:45] <drussell> Off to the post office, TTYL, folks! \o
[18:59:09] <notk0lie> l8r
