[20:25:48] -!- janrinok has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[18:54:16] janrinok|afk is now known as janrinok
[16:11:31] -!- Phoenix666 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[16:11:29] janrinok is now known as janrinok|afk
[16:11:19] <Phoenix666> later!
[16:11:17] <Phoenix666> np
[16:11:15] <janrinok> lol
[16:11:13] <janrinok> anyway - I must go afk
[16:11:09] <Phoenix666> feels like a regex trying to fix me
[16:10:57] <Phoenix666> very strange
[16:10:53] <janrinok> how strange
[16:10:44] <Phoenix666> and i haven't run any updates on my system since my last training session Friday
[16:10:21] <Phoenix666> i only started seeing it today
[16:10:12] <janrinok> and I can't see them in the stories that you have edited, so they are not embedded in the actual story content
[16:09:29] <janrinok> strange - it appears to be your system rather than dev. Nobody else has seen that. I use FF and IceWeasel and I don't get them
[16:08:34] <Phoenix666> FF 30.0
[16:08:17] <janrinok> I don't get them. What browser are you using?
[16:07:57] <janrinok> Phoenix666: I can only see div tags between <blockquote> and <p> which is where they should be.
[16:07:49] <Phoenix666> I'm not putting those <div> tags in there, nor the <p> tag that immediately follows it. I've been using <p></p> clauses, and those <div><p> pairs appear when hitting Preview
[16:06:50] <NetCraft> ^ 03New Evidence Emerges of Wage-Fixing by DreamWorks, Pixar and Blue Sky | Cartoon Brew
[16:06:49] <Phoenix666> <p class="byline"> <a href="http://www.cartoonbrew.com/artist-rights/new-evidence-emerges-of-wage-fixing-by-dreamworks-pixar-and-blue-sky-106529.html">Cartoon Brew reports</a>:</p><blockquote><div><p>
[16:05:53] <janrinok> which <div> tags do you see?
[16:05:38] <janrinok> I'm going to have to go afk for a while, I would strongly recommend that you start editing stories slowly, and do them in turn, not pick and choose. All the stories below mrcoolbp's 'Editor Training' title have been accepted in the past and have hit the front page. However, we have 'undone' the editing to give you all some training value.
[16:03:55] <Phoenix666> where are those <div> tags coming from?
[16:03:50] <janrinok> yes, simply by looking at it
[16:03:39] <Phoenix666> green because you gave it the double-sign off, i surmise
[15:59:59] <janrinok> ...and why is it now coloured green?
[15:59:46] <janrinok> try reloading it from the _story_ list and see how it formats on your screen
[15:59:11] <janrinok> it seems to work for me
[15:58:33] <Phoenix666> i stopped after 5-6 tries because it seemed like another bug in dev
[15:58:32] <janrinok> let me try
[15:58:04] <janrinok> yes but there are no </p><p> tags between paras?
[15:58:04] <Phoenix666> it has happened in the others i've done since that one, but i was able to change the formatting in those
[15:57:18] <Phoenix666> i kept trying to break it up and those tags kept coming back by themselves
[15:56:56] <Phoenix666> that one
[15:56:54] <Phoenix666> That's what i was saying with the <div><p> tags that kept popping up in that tone
[15:55:45] <janrinok> Phoenix666: The New Evidence story - is there a better way of formatting the display rather than a single block of text?
[15:55:01] <Phoenix666> k, saved the cellphone tracking one
[15:51:54] <janrinok> well, it still needs a person in the chain, otherwise we just get everything -wanted or not.
[15:51:21] <Phoenix666> interesting--guess that's one approach to keeping the submissions pipeline full
[15:50:22] -!- cmn32480 has quit [Quit: Web client closed]
[15:50:10] <janrinok> we also have rss-bot which trawls the news feeds and simply lists those that it finds on #rss-bot
[15:49:27] <janrinok> one of its eventual capabilities will be that we can submit subs easily from IRC
[15:48:47] <janrinok> exec is a bot that lives on IRC - I suspect that someone was testing it when it produced that page
[15:44:21] <Phoenix666> dunno what exec is
[15:44:12] <Phoenix666> that one's spam, so i figured i'd delete it if i saw it in the submission queue
[15:39:14] <janrinok> do you know who/what exec is?
[15:38:17] <janrinok> I see you looked at the Rasp Pi story - what did you think of it?
[15:36:43] <Phoenix666> ok, that's a good rule of thumb. i didn't realize i was racing :-)
[15:36:12] <janrinok> spend about 15-20 minutes per sub minimum at first thinking of alternative ways to structure the story and who we are editing for i.e. the community.
[15:35:04] <janrinok> Phoenix666: OK, do the next story, but don't try to race through them all. Try to get the maximum training value from each one you do. Writing a submission, and editing someone else's sub are quite different skills
[15:33:54] <janrinok> that might be an update - we have to produce a format that is readable on a wide range of devices. CSS is useful, but only as long as you divide the story into divs
[15:33:42] <Phoenix666> i'm working on the wage-fixing one now
[15:32:43] <Phoenix666> dev's inserting <div><p> tags now when hitting Preview. that's new behavior
[15:32:31] <janrinok> Phoenix666: its a difficult story because you have a spread of knowledge amongst the community - some experts, some less so knowledgeable. Try to look at the story source and see if there is a single para or perhaps 2 which provide a little bit more explanation. It's not a right/wrong thing, it is a case of trying to attract as much interest to the story as possible
[15:30:08] <Phoenix666> Right, sorry
[15:29:34] <janrinok> Phoenix666: Blackhole story - remember to set the title to TitleCase
[15:20:51] <janrinok> just ignore the warnings and edit as new
[15:20:47] <Phoenix666> OK, I'll go ahead then
[15:20:36] <Phoenix666> Similar Stories lists two
[15:20:34] <janrinok> no - they are all good for practice
[15:20:22] <Phoenix666> i'm looking at the black holes one
[15:20:10] <janrinok> a dupe where?
[15:19:50] <Phoenix666> so, if something's a dupe, just delete it?
[15:18:12] <janrinok> np, perfectly acceptable
[15:17:58] <Phoenix666> cool, thanks
[15:17:16] <janrinok> That was a good edit. The only minor observation is that you could have identified the second link as a "[PDF]", but otherwise good
[15:16:51] <Phoenix666> i saved one about wireless recharging using indoor sunlight
[15:16:31] <Phoenix666> hi
[15:16:25] <janrinok> Phoenix666: ping
[14:56:44] <janrinok> any qs, I'll be around
[14:56:34] janrinok|afk is now known as janrinok
[14:56:22] <janrinok|afk> I've transferred about a dozen or so
[14:56:20] <Phoenix666> nope, i'll get to it. thanks!
[14:56:05] <Phoenix666> Can you guys import more from production that we can practice on?
[14:56:01] <janrinok|afk> There is a whole new bunch of training subs to start with if you wish. Do you want me to help at all?
[14:55:12] <Phoenix666> OK I guess. The submission queue on dev more or less ran out so I did a couple mrcoolbp imported from production. Since then I've been using submissions on production as a training ground
[14:54:08] <janrinok|afk> hi Phoenix666 - how's the training going?
[14:24:01] <Phoenix666> hi guys
