[20:26:18] -!- janrinok has quit [Quit: byeeee]
[19:56:05] <janrinok> TMB is on #soylent for info, we're just chatting there
[19:55:53] <cosurgi> I did not log in. But I am logged in.
[19:55:40] <cosurgi> whoa, I am logged in, again.
[19:53:23] <janrinok> life on #soylent - TMB is back on
[19:50:53] <n1> that looks to be a very impressive resource
[19:50:36] <janrinok> any subs are welcome, as you know. Especially subs that make people think
[19:49:55] <cosurgi> they are still uploading more stuff.
[19:49:17] <janrinok> cosurgi: in your own time, but I'd like to see it
[19:49:03] <n1> >:)
[19:48:48] <janrinok> I could actually hear that as I read it
[19:48:42] <AdmiralNachoSupreme> ^* 03The WE-Heraeus International Winter School on Gravity and Light - YouTube
[19:48:42] <cosurgi> in fact I was pondering whether to submit a story about https://www.youtube.com since that youtube resource is pretty good. I was just a little too lazy (for now).
[19:48:26] <n1> muahahaha
[19:48:10] <janrinok> close enough!
[19:47:37] <cosurgi> like that :)
[19:47:34] <cosurgi> :-E
[19:47:18] * janrinok wonders how to type an evil grin and rubbing hands icon
[19:47:04] <n1> seems that way
[19:46:59] <n1> lol
[19:46:47] <janrinok> perhaps _we_ are now in charge...
[19:46:29] <janrinok> perhaps it's just the 3 of us...?
[19:46:01] <janrinok> I wondered where all 'the workers' were gathering. #Soylent is quiet too.
[19:45:30] <n1> lol
[19:45:29] <n1> you're not missing anything
[19:45:11] <janrinok> I'll let them sort things out first
[19:44:54] <n1> :/
[19:44:50] <janrinok> I did and couldn't
[19:44:37] <n1> once you do it you should be able to join
[19:43:37] <janrinok> n1: thanks for trying to help there, but I had no success
[19:43:08] <janrinok> that's a useful course
[19:42:50] <cosurgi> about qualification - it's worth 6 ECTS points in european education system
[19:42:40] <janrinok> bonus!
[19:42:29] <cosurgi> It's related to my passion :) and studies too :)
[19:42:15] <cosurgi> I'd say it cover about 80% of all material we had there, except for ability to talk with tutors and professors and ask questions in person.
[19:41:52] <janrinok> does it give you an extra qualification, or is it related to work/studies?
[19:41:38] <cosurgi> also, this youtube channel is a very good resource for people who are determined to learn general relativity
[19:41:02] <cosurgi> yes, I did. Though it was very exchausting.
[19:40:36] <janrinok> cosurgi: did you enjoy the course?
[19:40:12] -!- cosurgi [cosurgi!~cosurgi@Soylent/Staff/Wiki/cosurgi] has joined #editorial
[19:40:12] -!- cosurgi has quit [Changing host]
[19:40:11] <janrinok> yes, but I can't reach several other channels here either. It'll be fixed by those who know what they are doing.

[19:39:49] -!- cosurgi has quit [Quit: leaving]
[19:39:29] <cosurgi> I'll be right back, hold on.
[19:39:21] <n1> or this could be an example of why i dont trust my memory.
[19:39:12] <n1> i think the db server was due to go down about now?
[19:38:48] <cosurgi> I'm logged out too
[19:38:35] <janrinok> ...and it's down here
[19:38:20] <janrinok> Ah, I've been logged out of the main site again
[19:37:48] <janrinok> I've no doubt
[19:37:27] <janrinok> sorry, I'll be here all week, try the fish
[19:37:26] <cosurgi> heheh, yeah. It was indeed very demanding and intensive course :)
[19:37:03] <janrinok> nothing like a bit of 'light' reading, eh?
[19:36:32] <AdmiralNachoSupreme> ^ 03Gravity and Light International Winter School 2015
[19:36:32] <AdmiralNachoSupreme> ^ 03The WE-Heraeus International Winter School on Gravity and Light - YouTube
[19:36:31] <cosurgi> yeah, hi. I was away for some time :) sorry for that. I was on a winter school on general relativity https://www.youtube.com http://www.gravity-and-light.org
[19:36:26] <janrinok> it seems very slow to me, have you noticed any change n1?
[19:36:04] <janrinok> site is back up again
[19:35:24] <janrinok> I thought that they had finished on IRC - perhaps there are a few probs. Anyway, hi again cosurgi
[19:34:47] <cosurgi> janrinok: hi, I just noticed that irc server was down and my nick changed
[19:34:43] <janrinok> Sites down again as the DB goes off line I think
[19:33:38] <janrinok> cosurgi: hi, sup?

[19:31:14] <janrinok> Yes, it's got everything that a capital city should have - culture, nightlife, business, wealth, infrastructure etc.
[19:30:58] <n1> it's probably quite like london, the overall picture isnt great, but the little areas make it amazing
[19:30:31] <janrinok> the exit?
[19:30:17] <n1> im sure there are some nice things about paris though
[19:29:23] <janrinok> lol - that's about it!
[19:29:07] <n1> i understand, it's those people in paris that give the french a bad name!
[19:28:23] <janrinok> I might have just written that in French - my mind is addled
[19:27:49] <janrinok> Mind you, the rest of France hates Parisiennes too - so they probably get clobbered by my local police
[19:27:18] <n1> good advice, ive been to paris before and have no desire to return really
[19:26:30] <janrinok> well, all I will say is avoid Paris unless that is your destination. There may be other places that behave simlarly in France but I've had the good fortune not to go to any of them ;)
[19:25:54] <n1> the second wanted to impress the two female police officers he was with it appeared
[19:25:40] <n1> the first was totally reasonable
[19:25:28] <n1> havnt had any experience with the french police, but ive only been stopped twice here too
[19:24:40] <janrinok> On the whole, I have only had good experiences with the police in either country - providing you're not taking the piss they will often be quite reasonable about it. The one exception I have found is in and around Paris, where fines seem to be a money-raising scheme.
[19:23:38] <n1> the guy who was a resident of jersey also had fun going to the US, when their immigration people didn't believe that Jersey was a real place with its own passports.
[19:23:08] <n1> this wasnt very long ago, but i can see them getting more strict as time goes on
[19:22:44] <janrinok> Unfortunately, with the unified licenses, it is very easy to do nowadays.
[19:22:09] <janrinok> Probably better than being in a Brit car, but if a fine arrives in France from the UK the French police make sure that you pay it. For a long time that wasn't reciprocated.
[19:22:05] <n1> or the jersey government just ignores them
[19:22:01] <n1> i knew someone who was a resident of jersey, went everywhere at 100mph because they didnt forward the tickets
[19:21:10] <n1> you're probably alright on the cameras too, with foreign plates
[19:21:04] <janrinok> But I wouldn't want to abuse that goodwill
[19:21:00] <n1> my car isnt powerful, but it feels like a waste when i cant even really use the little power it does have
[19:20:42] <janrinok> Actually, from prior experience many years ago, if you have a foreign vehicle they often just wave to slow you down rather than pull you over.
[19:19:32] <n1> not a bad thing, dont need speeding fines
[19:18:38] <janrinok> It's a vehicle modified for a wheelchair, so it's not the fastest vehicle on the road.
[19:18:23] <n1> it's a long drive and not exactly on the most stress-free roads
[19:17:59] <n1> that is probably a very good idea
[19:17:41] <janrinok> Although S's parents will be here, I will probably do another short stop in their house in Bristol rather than do the UK driving in one leg.
[19:16:32] <janrinok> Yes, with the fuel saving and the lack of hotel costs it works out best for me.
[19:15:52] <n1> for fuel costs
[19:15:47] <n1> and 6-7hrs driving probably makes most of the difference in ferry crossing
[19:15:33] <janrinok> Once, I would have started driving and stopped when I got to Yorkshire, but not any more.
[19:15:30] <n1> yeah, thats what i figured
[19:14:51] <janrinok> if I go via Calais, I can spend 6-7 hours driving from here to there, and I still need a hotel for a good sleep.
[19:13:22] <n1> quite surprised at how cheap that route can be, but obviously wouldn't work out for you having to go a long way in the wrong direction
[19:12:54] <n1> always more expensive than dover calais i would assume
[19:12:07] <janrinok> no, its the cheapest way but a lot of driving, especially if you are on your own. So the ferry from Roscoff to Portsmouth is the shortest route but is an overnight ferry and costs a few bob.
[19:11:07] <n1> well i assumed you wouldn't try to drive across the channel
[19:10:29] <janrinok> mixture of overnight ferry, and driving
[19:10:15] <janrinok> But it will be good to be there as I cannot get back to UK very often nowadays
[19:10:14] <n1> 24hrs, driving?
[19:09:54] <janrinok> well, not much of my doing - she has done all the work!
[19:09:35] <n1> congrats!
[19:08:05] <janrinok> yes, its my daughter's wedding. I have to get S's parents to come here to look after her while I go back to the UK for 5 days or so. 24 hours travelling each way and 3 days in Yorkshire
[19:07:02] <n1> looking forward to spending some time in the UK?
[19:05:25] <janrinok> exactly
[19:05:10] <n1> i'm not a big drinker, but that doesn't mean i cant be one heh
[19:03:31] <janrinok> already got the beer in - but I'll probably find that a few pints will have me flat on my back. Lack of practice
[19:02:45] <n1> indeed, doesn't sound like you'll escape yet though ;)
[19:02:29] <n1> which i find very annoying, and some people will do it specifically because you have asked them not to.
[19:02:15] <janrinok> I would like to link up with you if that is possible and it would be sod's law if the only time you might be coming this way I was going to be in UK.
[19:01:48] <n1> on the fb/twitter though, i have found that even though i do not use such things, it doesnt stop other people talking about and posting pictures
[19:01:15] <n1> no clearer yet sorry, probably not then though, will still be festival season.
[19:00:12] <janrinok> I don't FB, Twitter or anything else that leaves a trail
[18:59:50] <janrinok> By the way, I have to be back in UK in late Aug - Yorkshire area unfortunately - but have you any clearer dates on when you might visit France?
[18:59:28] <n1> ?
[18:59:27] <n1> how do you mean, regular log-in/
[18:59:04] <janrinok> The only place I have a regular log-in is here and I keep that fairly close to my chest.
[18:58:20] <n1> socially people use facebook type things, and many make their number public to 'friends' from what i understand
[18:57:42] <n1> usually you would, but i think people dont hand out their number in the same way
[18:56:53] <janrinok> I thought you just transferred the sim card
[18:56:38] <janrinok> is that because every time they change phone they have to change number?
[18:56:14] <n1> a lot of people cant even remember their own
[18:54:40] <n1> being exposed to so much information constantly, it filters through but doesn't retain if you know what i mean
[18:54:26] <janrinok> a very widespread problem. And if you ask someone for a phone number for a third party, they have to look at their phone because they simply cannot remember. I know all my important phone numbers
[18:53:55] <n1> plus don't trust my memory, not when it would count anyway.
[18:53:32] <n1> seriously though, having the internet and other information sources has meant my brain doesn't actually try to retain that much stuff
[18:52:26] <janrinok> lol
[18:52:04] <n1> thats your excuse, not sure what mine is
[18:51:39] <janrinok> and I can't choose which one to lose
[18:51:12] <janrinok> my brain is full, new item in means existing item out...
[18:51:10] <n1> i was wondering what your connection to the bolivian president was
[18:50:35] * janrinok wonders if anyone (everyone) regrets making him an Ed?
[18:50:21] <n1> i used to be a lot more up on IRC stuff, but it's been quite a good while since i did anything but chat.
[18:50:11] <janrinok> damn, got the wrong one _again_
[18:49:59] <janrinok> morals*
[18:49:45] <janrinok> I'm starting from quite a low level of personal morales
[18:48:59] <n1> power corrupts so quickly ;)
[18:48:29] <janrinok> ...well maybe for shit and giggles..
[18:47:56] <janrinok> still wouldn't do it to you tho
[18:47:42] <n1> can rejoin straight away
[18:47:28] <n1> a kick is just temporary
[18:47:15] <janrinok> 'cos I wouldn't know how to unkick you so to speak, or is it just temporary?
[18:46:43] <n1> well thats good to know ;)
[18:46:22] <janrinok> I wouldn't do that to you
[18:45:58] <janrinok> but you know that I would break it....
[18:45:55] <n1> or you could /kick n1
[18:45:47] <n1> yeah
[18:45:44] <janrinok> ...if I wanted to, you mean?
[18:45:28] <n1> you can /topic [new topic]
[18:45:14] * janrinok still hasn't got a clue what to do next though
[18:45:03] <janrinok> er, yeah
