[23:46:23] <fyngyrz> buuuuut I don't think so. :)
[23:43:46] <fyngyrz> perhaps I'km just missing the meta-funny, though
[23:43:25] <fyngyrz> of course, some people are just confused. I posted a funny recently that got modded "informative", which is ridiculous
[23:42:32] <fyngyrz> you like whoosh though?
[23:42:06] <fyngyrz> lots of posts that are neither get modded up because, as near as I can tell, "I agree"
[23:41:36] <fyngyrz> same thing happens with "informative/insightful", though.
[23:41:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> very easy but i'm not down with Agree. disagree was supposed to be there for folks who can't help thinking moderation is the place to make statements.
[23:11:41] <fyngyrz> TheMightyBuzzard: how difficult would it be to add a couple new mod types? I'm thinking 0/Whoosh and 0/Agree (to complement the 0/Disagree)
[22:58:18] <fyngyrz> anyway. I miss the boat. Obviously, I guess. :)
[22:57:56] <fyngyrz> Vertebrate fossils were off-limits, but the range of inverts out there is astounding, many of them mineralized in beautiful fashion
[22:56:22] <fyngyrz> But we do have shelves full of nice mineral specimens :)
[22:55:49] <fyngyrz> we're a little too old to deal with the danger though
[22:55:15] <fyngyrz> we dug it. So to speak.
[22:54:54] <Kuro> that sounds amazing. nothing like being one with nature on the shore of a big body of water
[22:51:26] <fyngyrz> we did a great deal of rock collecting on various sections of the shoreline. Lots of crystals, geodes, various fossils, some of which are okay to collect
[22:50:02] <fyngyrz> 245k surface acres, 220 feet deep, and waves that can really get in your face. And your boat.
[22:48:45] <fyngyrz> it's a big lake - small boats aren't a good idea
[22:48:29] <fyngyrz> yeah. We had a smallish cabin cruiser with an I/O setup. Old Volvo engine. It needed pretty regular attention
[22:47:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> alls i gotta do so far is dump the leaves out once a year and make sure the battery stays charged.
[22:47:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> john boats ftw. almost no upkeep.
[22:45:01] <fyngyrz> We finally sold our boat though, the upkeep got to be too much.
[22:44:16] <fyngyrz> yes indeed. All that life experience, and that's what they chose. And fishing, of course.
[22:44:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> true story
[22:43:38] <fyngyrz> and hey, no cloud! :)
[22:43:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> when i was like fourteen or fifteen i noticed all the old guys sitting outside the blacksmith shop in town drinking coffee and said that's the life for me. i've been practicing to be a contrary old bastard ever since.
[22:43:26] <fyngyrz> then there are a few other goodies.
[22:43:19] <fyngyrz> basically leverages "tail" for the most part
[22:43:02] <fyngyrz> Shows me what sites are being hit, the various attempts at hacking, etc.
[22:42:31] <fyngyrz> I am running real-time log analysis, all of which I've written myself. It'll probably do.
[22:41:45] <Kuro> hahahaha
[22:41:44] <fyngyrz> GTFO my lawn
[22:41:36] <fyngyrz> and I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
[22:41:08] <fyngyrz> that's good, because I don't see it changing. Old AND cranky.
[22:40:12] <Kuro> nothing wrong with being stuck in the past
[22:39:47] <Kuro> haha thats usually the case fyngyrz
[22:37:18] * fyngyrz stuck in the past
[22:37:01] <fyngyrz> screen space, I mean
[22:36:55] <fyngyrz> looks like a really space-wasting way to translate the usual log-analysis utilities, TBH
[22:36:13] <fyngyrz> :)
[22:36:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> as well you should
[22:34:06] <fyngyrz> sorry. I irrevocably instant-translate "cloud" into "insecure, and want my money"
[22:33:11] <fyngyrz> oh, I see... you can host it, or they will and charge you after 30 days
[22:32:13] <Kuro> yeah, but allows to be installed on the local box from the looks of it
[22:31:57] <Kuro> no not going to use a reverse proxy.
[22:31:38] <fyngyrz> oh, FFS, it's a "hand your data to the cloud" thing
[22:31:03] <Kuro> fyngyrz: guessing it works like GA rather than reading the logs like awstats iirc which was the name...
[22:30:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> if you do you're going to see the proxy's address.
[22:30:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> naw. if you don't have a reverse proxy it just uses the data apache gets as part of rendering the pages.
[22:29:45] <Kuro> Ah ok, thanks TMB. I might look into hooking GA into my install
[22:29:12] <fyngyrz> what does it do, read Apache web logs?
[22:28:52] <Kuro> oh just that its a google analytics clone. most of the open source web analytics tools ive seen werent as nice thats all
[22:28:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> Kuro, if you're not using a reverse proxy there's built in ghetto analytics. i'd use something else if i needed them for bean counters though.
[22:26:49] <fyngyrz> so what's done that has you impressed?
[22:26:06] <Kuro> mamoto aka piwik
[22:25:51] <fyngyrz> Kuro
[22:25:47] <fyngyrz> What's that, Kuo?
[21:55:39] <Kuro> wow this is pretty slick
[21:55:00] <Kuro> thank you
[21:54:09] <chromas> My condolences
[21:54:04] <Kuro> matomo is what i guess the new name of piwik is
[21:53:30] <Kuro> yeah, I will be running my own instance
[21:53:12] <Kuro> oh yhea, I get how people would be against that
[21:52:52] <chromas> Nobody wanted to add it to sn though because third-party
[21:52:42] <chromas> It could, if you're running your own setup
[21:52:23] <Kuro> cool, thanks chromas . I guess if anything adding the google analytics to a footer or in a file somewhere would get the job done
[21:49:52] <chromas> Piwik, I think
[21:47:59] <chromas> There was talk of adding in a self-hosted analytics system. I don't recall if it was added and/or eventually deleted, or what its name was.
[21:41:57] <Kuro> quick question, is there any built in visitor analytics in rehash or does it easily integrate with google analytics?
[21:21:27] <Kuro> Have a good time on the open waters TMB o7
[12:26:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> no dev stuff happening today or tomorrow from me. the fishes is calling and my boat needs some exercise.
[01:37:43] <Bytram> afk biab
[01:37:37] * Bytram realizes that he just got home from work, is hungry, and needs to prepare a meal so doffs his current dev hat and dons his chef's chapeau
[01:36:43] * Bytram does a quick switching of hats before he pops into the channel
[00:31:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram only skates by because he's also a dev and admin
[00:29:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> editors are well known second class citizens
[00:29:46] <Kuro> got it, hence why the "set the servers local time to UTC or else things break" note in the setup guide
[00:29:38] <chromas> And in some places (but not others) in the editor pages
[00:29:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> we only convert to your local time for article time/comment time display purposes
[00:28:57] <Kuro> ok so since im not on utc it acts oddly to me
[00:28:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, the server always runs on UTC
[00:28:17] * chromas wonders if anybody noticed the czech
[00:28:01] <exec> └─ 13SoylentNews: SoylentNews is people
[00:27:59] <chromas> Did anyone mention it?
[00:27:58] <Kuro> hmmm. that I see. but on the root of the domain its the current articles. click on yesterdays news and it takes me to https://soylentnews.org
[00:27:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> low-key but amusing
[00:27:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> i was kinda fond of takyon's verified check
[00:26:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> oooooh
[00:26:51] <chromas> You should change the script names to .php next april 1 :D
[00:26:41] <exec> └─ 13SoylentNews: SoylentNews is people
[00:26:39] <TheMightyBuzzard> like https://soylentnews.org
[00:26:20] <exec> └─ 13SoylentNews: SoylentNews is people
[00:26:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> if you want a specific date you can change the numbers in the https://soylentnews.org link
[00:25:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> well, yeah. it only lets you go back one day at a time
[00:25:41] <chromas> I think it was that way on /. too
[00:24:55] <Kuro> the dates work, just that in order to go back in time you need to click yesterdays news then the previou day once the site reloads
[00:24:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> either way, the dates are linking
[00:24:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> except they're not being right
[00:23:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> Kuro, should read "< Today's News | April 16 >" with the gt/lt signs linking forwards and backwards a day
[00:16:21] <Kuro> anyone else have the issue where if you click on the "Yesterday's News" link it at the bottom of the page it reloads the site then turns the YN link at the bottom of the page to "Todays news | April 17" ? This becuase the site runs on UTC and im on PST -8?
